Not all ad servers are created equal, and as a result, they measure analytics differently. This article will explore how views, hovers, and clicks are tracked specifically using the Broadstreet Ad Server.
Views
By default, a view is tracked for an ad once the ad is loaded onto the page. The ad does not need to be visible on the screen for a view to be counted. However, Broadstreet offers lazy loading for ads, which you can read more about here. With lazy loading enabled, a view is only tracked when the ad is within a specific viewpoint on the reader’s screen.
Hovers
A hover is recorded the moment a user hovers over an ad.
We only register one hover per ad per page load. It’s not possible to record multiple hovers at once.
On mobile devices, hovers correspond to “touchstart” and “touchend” events in the browser, which are typically triggered when a user holds their finger on the screen over the ad (this could include actions like scrolling or reading the ad).
*Note, hovers are not tracked in newsletters
Clicks
A click is recorded any time someone clicks on an ad. An ad can receive multiple clicks per page load if it is clicked several times. Clicks are a key metric for ad reporting.
